What are the chances to see linux games port to andromium?
I would like to know, from a programmer point of view, what are the chances we see Linux games on Andromium. There are a bunch of quality games out there that could probably run on a 4core 2.3Ghz with 2-3GB Ram. I'd like to know how complex it would be for devs to port their games. Is it something we could see on the store? And before speaking of the store, are the devs gonna have an easy way to work around android and work within Andromium or Andromium will only support android games?
I have faith in Andromium and I think apps will help a lot to add potential to this OS. I don't know how much dependent it is on Android but I think it could be a lot more than android can be. I test it every day since a week and I am amazed with how fast you went fixing issues and make it stable. This version as nothing to do with the first version I had in hand! Can't wait to see more features coming! I'm still waiting for Nexus 6 re-supply to change my phone and have more power behind the screen.
Now what games you'd like to see on Andromium guys? Stay realistic.
I'd go with Card games such as poker and blackjack or maybe some kind of RTS like Age of empire (but an indie RTS)
Feel free to ask your games related questions to devs or members of the forum

Hi, if Steam would work on Andromium like it does on for e.g. Ubuntu (might come to Ubuntu Phone someday) that would be insane!! I think that games like Counter Strike would work on it and that would be very cool. How big is the chance that this can happen?

Then it needs to be compatible with ARM processor and not x86. Half life have been ported to phones recently. So from my point of view, nothing impossible, but counter strike would probably be limited to 3vs3 or 4vs4 to keep it playable on your phone. Steam is pushing devs to go for Open Gl, well that's what I read on the web. So steam for Andromium would be possible if we get big enough. That means we HAVE to share Andromium and build a strong community. I made this topic to show the need of games on an OS. I hope we're gonna make this thread active and full of ideas. Maybe bring some game devs to it! I am no expert so I can't wait to hear more opinions on that!

But Andromium is not a separate system it runs on android as a launcher so I think only Android games will work

If only android apps work I don't see why there'll be an app store... I rather buy an android app and use it on both android and Andromium...

Andromium is not a separate OS, it's a program that runs on the Android OS, much in the same way a launcher does. It's a graphical interface. This means that Android apps and games don't need to ported for it, although developers need to add support for Andromium in their apps. This is the beauty of it really Regarding your original question, I don't know how difficult it is to port games from Linux to Android, but it shouldn't be too hard, Valve ported Half-Life 2 to the Nvidia Shield.

Hi guys great discussion.
Yes, as long as the apps is developed for Android (using Android SDK, NDK support will be added in the future), the app can already run in full screen mode inside Andromium OS. However we encourage developers to use our SDK to add multi-window and UI element scaling to their apps via Andromium SDK (a set of support libraries), so that it is optimized for use with keyboard and mouse in a desktop/laptop environment.
The reason that we going to have an app store as well is so that it is easier for users to discover Andromium OS optimized app (using our SDK), as well as a central location for developer to promote their Andromium apps.

For testing purposes, can you also have a website where you can download them directly? (preferably before the app for the store is made, if you want to wait, that is fine too)

Hi undeadninjatv, currently we have a SDK in a close beta with a selective few developer. Using the SDK developer can develop new games or port their existing Android game over to Andromium Platform. However we are still making major changes to the SDK to improve performance and also refining the API(s), so that is why currently the SDK is still in close beta.
In the future, once we release our SDK publicly and have developer start developing apps for Andromium, we would have our own apps store that developers can publish their apps (we plan to support both Free and Paid app publication). As for the website vs App store, the amount of work involve won't be too much different, it is matter of getting the SDK ready for developer first, before we spend the development effort for the app store.
