Andromium v. 0.1.1
Device: Oneplus One 4.4.4
The Andromium OS is a great productivity idea and is quite well executed. The ability to launch the service manually (added in v. 0.1.1) was great as I managed to use a USB hub with an OTG cable and use a USB keyboard and USB mouse. I see how this can be a problem for people who don't have OTG on their phones, and many people might prefer to use Bluetooth. Yet, this leaves the possibility open for creating compatible OTG docks (not sure however, if the phone can be charged while providing OTG). Sadly, the Chromecast would still need to be used for displaying Andromium OS.
About Chromecast:
My experience with Andromium on the Chromecast hasn't been the best so far. The content isn't scaled properly to any of my TVs (I don't have a monitor to test on at the moment). I suspect this is related to the way the Chromecast mirrors your display, rather than the Andromium app. However, the Chromecast usually scales other content (such as Netflix) correctly.
Even with the Snapdragon 801 there's still a noticeable delay (on the Chromecast) when using the mouse. Any of the mouses I've used so far have been terrible, scrolling and swiping is fidgety at best. I suspect that's got to do with how Android handles mouse input, but it might also be my mouses that aren't functioning properly with Android.
The "Screen Standy" app proposed (rooted users only) hasn't worked correctly for me. The app in itself works, but doesn't automatically launch when casting my screen. I hope this feature can be built into Andromium natively (at least for rooted users). One nice idea would be to turn off the screen but leave the touchscreen enabled, so the phone could actually be used as a touchpad, but I guess that might be difficult to implement.
Otherwise, the Andromium OS works correctly, the built in browser only shows blank pages (which has already been reported as a bug), but Chrome and other supported apps seem to work as they should. I haven't tested any unsupported apps yet.
I hope this feedback was useful, I might update the post depending on software updates etc.
Keep up the good work,
Daniel
